This is a guide to some of the things we think you should do on the upcoming Queens Birthday long weekend if you are visiting the Mornington Peninsula.
So the big event for wine lovers is the Winter wine weekend in Red Hill and our industry insider tip is to go the Avani winery on Stanley’s rd Red Hill south. The wine made here is lauded all over the world and we think that it is some of the best on the Peninsula. The food that they are going to serve based on char coal cooking so will be super delicious as well. Sashi and her family are passionate belivers in the importance of looking after the beautiful property that they grow grapes on and everything in the vineyard is organic.
The Peninsula Hot Springs, a great way to unwind after driving down on Friday either book a super early morning soak or be clever and take the last availble booking time on the Friday evening unwind and then come to Bistro Elba for dinner……
Independent Wine Store in Rye, pop past this local stawart for expert advice on what to take home to Melbourne, they are also the most helpful people around with advice on what wineries you should make time to visit.
Millionaires walk Sorrento, this local ramble is on of our favourite dog walks, treking along the cliff tops on a brisk winter morning is an opportunity to think and dream of what might be. Don’t be scared of the locals they are all super nice and friendly. To find out where the walk begins ask at the Beachside tourist information centre in Sorrento’s main street.
Mushroom Hunting is also one of the things to do when on the peninsula in winter, we forage for them in the very early mornings under the pine trees that dot the local countryside. Make sure that you are either on public land or have permission from the local landholders to gather them and if you are unsure of what to gathe you should do a mushroom foraging class LINK HERE. Our friend Cam runs them both here and in Central Victoria he is the complete expert in all things mushrooming. If you can’t be bothereed to get up at the crack of dawn in order to beat all the other mushroom hunters (it’s a thing) just come in a enjoy them at Bistro Elba we are serving them all weekend.
